Why did I decided to become a teacher?
The reasons are numerous, the most important
is having a meaningful and satisfying career, the ability to spend more time with my daughter and my love of learning.
I have spent years working in the corporate world, in one unsatisfying job after another with no idea of what I really
wanted to do. All of my jobs left me wanting more and not looking forward
to even getting out of bed every day.
I’ve
always been a huge believer of loving what you do – if you don’t want to get up and go to work every morning,
it’s time for some soul searching and that’s what I didI was a peer tutor in high school, I enjoyed helping classmates
get a better grasp of what we were being taught and showing them the way I studied and took notes. It was rewarding to help others improve their grades and understand the subjects a little better. In hindsight I realize that I have always had a knack and love for teaching.
During
that soul searching I also realized that becoming a parent makes one a teacher, like it or not. I have a bright daughter who loves to learn new things and is always asking for more. Over the last three years her teachers and I have had wonderful working relationships, they let
me know if my daughter has expressed an interest in something they do not have time for in-depth study of in school and
I will go over it with her. It brings me so much happiness when she learns something
new that I know I’ve made the right decision in becoming a teacher.
I love to learn something new every day and strive to do so. Being a teacher
will allow me to bring the joy of learning to more children than just my own and I can not think of anything more rewarding. I have had some inspiring teachers and professors during my educational career
who taught me the joys of learning and I would like to do the same.
This portfolio will showcase my background, lesson plans I have created, as well as my educational
philosophy, views on the art and science of teaching and child and adolescent behaviors.
